Jean Griffin
May 2008 Featured Volunteer

The Featured Volunteer for May 2008 is Jean Griffin. Jean has been volunteering with the American Red Cross Blood Services since July of 2007. Even though she’s fairly new, she’s already getting to know our donors, and they recognize her as well! She volunteers at the Mt. Hope Donor Center as well as drives in the Owings Mills/Pikesville/Reisterstown area.

Jean says one of her favorite things about volunteering is the interaction with the people she works with. She feels like she’s doing a good service. And she is! Jean not only likes volunteering, she feels like she’s doing something worthwhile. “I’m paying back for what was handed to me,” says Jean. She had surgery last year and needed blood. That motivated her to volunteer.

When Jean is not volunteering, she’s a busy lady. She enjoys traveling, bowling, singing in her choir, and spending time with her grandchildren, family, and friends.

If Jean could give one piece of advice to someone thinking about volunteering she’d say don’t sweat the small stuff. Just do it. It’s worthwhile.

Jean was recently honored at our Volunteer Luncheon and was absolutely shocked! She volunteers because she wants to give back to the community that helped provide the blood she needed. She never thought she’d be recognized for her hard work, but certainly appreciates it.
