The American Red Cross depends on the support of local citizens to maintain a safe and adequate community
blood supply for patients in this region. The Greater Chesapeake and Potomac Region of the American Red Cross
strives to collect over 1000 units of blood every day to meet the needs of patients and hospitals in this area.
Local businesses contribute to this effort by participating in The Community Heroes Program, a unique opportunity
for local businesses to earn community recognition by working to increase blood donations in their neighborhoods.
The Community Heroes Program provides employees of participating businesses the opportunity to donate blood
at their local donor center, during exclusive hours just for them, set up for the convenience of their company.
Businesses that participate in the Community Hero program receive special recognition on the Heroes Wall at the
local Donor Center along with other businesses that have made the same commitment to save lives in the community.
